The Canasta Hotel was built in 1863. We know that because we have the original deeds. It was built by a Thomas Skinner of the Blackpool Sands Company.
We think the picture below was taken around 1910 (not sure why it has a 1964 stamp on it)
Old Victorian picture of what is now the Canasta Hotel and adjoining properties
So that might explain why its a bit rickety in places. The bay window still exists and is right at the end of our main bar. We believe there was a lawn there – what a fabulous place to sit and people watch…
We purchased the Canasta in 2000 and bought next door (The Lawnlea) in 2001 and today we are a 30 bedroomed seaside hotel offering a bed and breakfast service.
We enjoy a lot of repeat business and always look forward to making new friends.
